RIP Byron Jones [Oct. 22nd, 2007|10:38 pm]
Lane Tech High School

I got word today that Byron Jones passed away recently. I'm not sure of the exact date or anything, all I know so far is that it happened, and I'm passing on the info to the Livejournal community here. If anyone else has any info, please pass that on, but no obituaries were posted on Monday in the Sun Times or the Tribune.

Mr. Jones was an English teacher at Lane, and the English teacher for the Alpha program, which were the means by which I got to encounter him. I believe he was the sponsor of the school's gay/straight alliance group, and I know he was the sponsor of Area 51 [the latter of which I attended regularly]. His death comes as quite a surprise to me, and I don't even know, exactly, if it's hit me yet. I'll update again if I learn anything else [though I hear through the grapevine that there may be a service tomorrow (Tuesday, October 22), but I know of neither the time nor location]

Help defeat Von Steuben [Oct. 2nd, 2007|06:57 pm]
Lane Tech High School

Both my boyfriend and I are Lane Tech alumni, and our church, Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral, is one of the contenders for a restoration grant from American Express and Partners in Preservation. Right now, our church is #6, but horror of horrors, Von Steuben is #2. Please go over to Partners in Preservation and VOTE for Holy Trinity, and do something good to bring Von Steuben down a notch or two!

Please, also pass this on to anybody whom you may think would possibly vote as well!

[mood |geeky]

Well, wasn't I shocked to see a Lane Tech LJ community!!

Well, I missed my reunion this year :( Have a friend getting married this year, and that was the day of her wedding shower. Ah well, maybe the next one.

Look forward to getting re-introduced to Laneites again :)

ETA: I suppose I should give my name, eh? LOL. My name is Aldona. There were actually two of us that graduated that year (much to my OWN surprise!).

I don't know how many of you would know about this, so I guess I should spread the word.

Ms. Groh was recently made to step down from her position of... well, basically doing everything because she did not really live in the city. She had been on staff at Lane for about thirty years or something, but they had changed the rules that said you had to live in the city. She figured that because she owned an apartment as well as a business in the city, and because she had been on staff for so long, that she would be okay. But someone ratted her out, and she had to either move into the city or be fired. She chose to leave.

I don't know what Mr. Foley is going to do now, but he'd better find a replacement soon. Lane just keeps getting picked on it seems. XD

I graduated last year, but this is all from Ms. Mary Atkinson, a music teacher at the school that I see every so often. When I get more information, I'll update you guys.

I am not a lane alumni but a current lane student class of 2007 (Juniors). Mr Shaal(sp?) still teaches there as well as Mr. Kuminowski.
